Background
The #EAUtonomy Project, led by GRAAD Burkina in collaboration with PACKS Africa, CERAPE, and the Pan African Consortium of Experts (PACE), with support from IDRC/CRDI, is an ambitious action-research project entitled: “Water and sanitation management and governance for sustainable and inclusive development in Central and West Africa.” This major research project will involve five African countries: Ghana, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Senegal, and Burkina Faso.
In Ghana, PACKS Africa is the national implementing partner. To ensure local relevance, ethical integrity, and quality assurance, a National Review Committee (RC) has been established.
Objective of the project
Propose innovative, science-based approaches to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the water and sanitation sector.
A cross-cutting and inclusive approach
The project adopts an interdisciplinary and participatory approach, mobilizing:
- Experts from academia & think tanks (WASH, policy, gender)
- Government agencies (e.g., Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources)
- Civil society and community organisations
- Private sector actors
- Independent experts in research ethics, governance, and monitoring & evaluation
Next steps
In the coming months, the project will deploy:
- Scientific publications and practical tools for decision-makers
- Co-construction workshops in several countries in the sub-region
- Field surveys and case studies
